Diana D'Amico Pawlewicz, Ph.D.

Diana D'Amico Pawlewicz is a historian of education and a leading researcher on the politics and policy of American schooling. She brings more than fifteen years of university-based research to Throughline Strategy, including promotion to Full Professor. She is the author of the award-winning book, Blaming Teachers: Professionalization Policies and the Failure of Reform in American History, and many articles in the field's leading journals including American Educational Research Journal and Harvard Educational Review. Her public scholarship on teacher policy, school reform, and the politics of public education has appeared in TIME Magazine, The Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle and several other national and local outlets. Diana brings to Throughline Strategy a long record of working with partners, leading projects, and designing research that serves the greater good.

Diana holds a Ph.D. from New York University and is based in Richmond, Virginia.

Andrea Guiden Pittman, Ph.D.

Co-CEO · Director of Policy and Practice

Andrea Guiden Pittman is an education researcher whose work focuses on the educator workforce, with particular attention to teacher quality, hiring practices, and the policies that shape who teaches in American schools. She brings to Throughline Strategy two decades of experience translating research into action across universities, federal centers, and the philanthropic sector.

Andrea currently serves as Senior Professorial Lecturer in the Baker School of Education at American University. Earlier in her career, she was a Senior Researcher at the American Institutes for Research, where she directed national studies on teacher preparation, educator effectiveness, and diversifying the educator workforce, and led technical assistance for two U.S. Department of Education-funded national centers. She has also served as Senior Partner at a research and consulting firm, leading projects with universities and nonprofits, and has worked with organizations including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Teach For America.

Andrea holds a Ph.D. from George Mason University and is based in Washington, DC.
